Moth Print Grey Trench Coat

This coat is made within a project “Overcoming my fears” which I’ve worked on during the
last year. Since I was afraid of insects so much in my childhood It was a great progress to make a decision to use graphic images of four giant moths as a base of the print. Aesthetically, these moths are stunningly beautiful, especially as white bleached prints on grey-coloured fabric.

I was inspired by Japanese kimonos and trench coats in terms of tailoring. The result is somewhere in the middle. The giant insect prints are a reference to kimonos, but the silhouette of the coat is closer to trench coats. As for printing, I have printed all the moths separately, each one on a square piece of grey cotton fabric. They were laboriously quilted and designed into the one whole garment.
